What’s new at Montera this week? Well, to no ones’ surprise, Montera officially has a new mural!
On May 12, 2025, mural artist, Kyle Holbrook, was scouted by Montera staff to paint a mural next to the 200 building. He says that he wants to convey the message of inclusion. Kyle believes that everyone should be included and murals are an excellent way to send the message. He says, “Modern art and museums of art feel too exclusive. Murals are more inclusive.” He has traveled all over the U.S painting murals and inspiring others. We are honored to have him help us spread the words of inclusion and diversity in Montera.
There is a lot of feedback on the mural, positive and negative. Many students say they love the mural. They appreciate the message that it sends.
“It perfectly represents Montera as a community. I love how they had students help out and write their own messages on the mural. [The mural] is a great representation of inclusion at Montera,” said one student.
However, visually speaking, students suggest more color or different color choices. “I think the lack of color kind of washes out the happiness. It looks a little sad so all I would say is that there should be more color,” said one student. Another commented, “I think that Montera’s mural game has been lacking recently. The older murals are definitely superior in my opinion.”
