You may have noticed or been told that your math class is being recorded. But you might not know that this recording is being used to enhance the teaching at Montera.
Berenice Villela-Smith, a 7th and 8th math teacher at Montera, says “all of the math teachers get together and watch videos of us teaching.” The teachers “talk about ways to get students to understand math better.”
Villela-Smith’s classes are recorded “about once a week.” The class recorded varies from week to week.
Villela-Smith thinks the experience allows teachers “to see what we don’t see while we’re teaching.” “Sometimes you get to see what students are doing when you’re not right in front of them.”
One con, Villela-Smith says, is that “students sometimes don’t act natural.” But another benefit is that teachers “get to learn new strategies from each other.”
Villela-Smith says she is grateful that she has coworkers “that want to find better ways to teach our students” and is proud of her students.
