Montera’s Track and Field team competed in OAL’s All-Comers Meet on April 12 and the first regular season meet on April 19 at Castlemont High School. Due to multiple altercations during the meets, race times have not been posted as of now.
The All-Comers Meet was more like a clinic than a meet. The administrators of the event (including Andrea Johnson, a Montera parent and a coach of the Oakland Cubs) warmed up the participants before beginning the races.
There was a lot of confusion surrounding the meet. Lamont Robinson, OAL’s Athletic Commissioner, contacted Samuel Cooper, Montera’s head track and field coach, saying the competition was cancelled. That same day, Cooper received word that Johnson would be running the meet. The miscommunication caused confusion with parents and athletes.
“They could’ve made it more organized,” Emily Bringas, a Montera athlete said. When asked what she thought about the administrators warming up the participants she said, “I actually liked it. It helped.”
