As promotion on May 27th approaches, many students are worried about what they need to do to “walk the stage.” One thing they might neglect is missing library books.
If an eighth grader has any library books past due by promotion, they will not be denied the right to walk the stage or promote to ninth grade. They will not, however, be given a graduation certificate.
The policy has been in place for “at least nine years” according to Maggie Rogers, Montera’s librarian after being created in cooperation with the administration.
Missing books have become a serious problem in the library. “We have over 300 missing books, not including textbooks,” Rogers stated. Missing manga volumes are particularly difficult, as students are dissatisfied when they can’t finish a series.
The policy seems to have been somewhat successful with Rogers saying that students, “sometimes pay, not always but sometimes.” Rogers urges students to “look in strange places around your house” for missing books.
