Montera Middle School’s 7th and 8th graders geared up for an exciting Fall Sports Pep Rally, which took place during the 8th period on Friday, Nov. 1st. Coach Whitney Ligons organized the rally, which promised to showcase school spirit and celebrate the efforts of the fall sports teams.
Events like these are intended to build essential for building unity and encourage support among students, faculty, and the community.
Coach Ligons, a physical education teacher with years of experience, has been instrumental in coordinating the event with help from other faculty and staff members, including Mx. J, Mr. Martin Price the athletic director, Mr. Samuel Cooper the dean, AAMA, SYL, Mr. Demerath, and BGB. Ligons shared that organizing school events involves aligning with the school calendar to avoid conflicts and collaborating with various teams to ensure a smooth flow.
Mr. Demerath, a special education teacher, served as the event’s MC, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and excitement to the festivities.
The rally spotlighted several sports, including girl’s volleyball, girl’s flag football, girl’s futsal, boy’s flag football, and cross country. According to Ligons, these activities foster a competitive spirit and strengthen the school’s camaraderie. Students and teachers alike eagerly anticipated the event.
Ms. Recco stated that she was “pretty stoked” for the celebration., Ms. Rodgers is excited, and many stated the same. As for the students who participated during the pep rally many stated they felt a mix of emotions.
Marisol Gomez, a 7th grader who was on the futsal team, stated “I felt nervous yet excited”, and Audrey Gonzales and Zoe Ludwick, SYL, members expressed it was very noisy and stressful behind the scenes.
Pep rallies at Montera are more than just a showcase for sports; they are a testament to the school’s commitment to student involvement and pride. Coach Ligons explained that these gatherings are designed to highlight the hard work of the athletes and bring the school community together.
The rally also featured musical chairs, further engaging the crowd.
Events like these not only emphasize the school’s athletic achievements but also reinforce the feeling of being supported by one another. This rally was a lively affair, celebrating school spirit and fostering lasting memories for all who attended.
