On Spring break a group of kids led by Mr. Cooper, Mr. Santo Domingo, Ms. Kyser and Ms. Esquivel are going to Washington D.C. to explore its museums and monuments so they can further their understanding of our nation’s history.
Mr. Cooper, along with other Montera Middle School staff members Mr. Santo Domingo, Ms. Kyser and Ms. Esquivel is taking a group of students for a full week to Washington D.C. to learn about our nation. The group will be taken to places like the WWII Memorial, the African American History Museum, the Vietnam War Memorial and more. On the first day after landing in D.C. the group will hit the ground running and spend each day from 8am-9pm learning and absorbing all that Washington D.C. has to offer educationally.
The group will visit many of D.C’s monuments such as the House of Congress, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the legendary White House. Going to these places, mainly the House of Congress and the White House is huge because that’s where the decisions for our nation are made. VIsiting other monuments like the Lincoln Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial is also a great honor because you get to learn about good people who fought and gave their lives for our country.
Of course this can’t happen without the group getting to D.C. and staying there at this time. The flight and airline is currently unknown but Cooper and the chaperones are leaning towards United Airlines. So far, we know that the seats will be economy and the kids are randomly seated but can sit with their friends as long as it doesn’t become too much for the teachers. For the hotels and who sleeps with who, and where they sleep, there are 4 kids per room unless they get an upgrade which costs more, but then there’s only 2 kids. I think that it works the same way with the chaperones. Now for the actual sleeping kids discuss it amongst themselves. Scenarios in the past were taking blankets and pillows and sleeping on the floor, making kid burritos and sleeping above and below blankets.
The trip is going to be great and full of fun and educational places and facts of America. The kids who are going are in the system, the chaperones accept that Cooper is the leader of the group, the flying and hotel plans for the kids have been made and they know where they are going in D.C. and it is going to be great. This trip is going to be an exciting opportunity to learn about our nation and to go to our capital to make some memories. Spring break is going to be fun and full of learning for these kids and the teachers hosting this event.
