A girl from Edna Brewer passed out while running the 400m track race at Castlemont High School on Saturday, April 19 at 1:30pm. This led to a fight between two adults watching the race from the stands, which made the track meet’s staff relocate spectators and race participants to the track field.
After the staff successfully relocated everyone to the track’s field, they tried to stop the fighting. However, multiple adults who had been relocated to the track field started yelling, and they, too, began fighting.
Staff rushed to call an ambulance for the girl who collapsed. However, the emergency dispatcher could not step in.
“We cannot send an ambulance for the girl until the police arrive on the scene.” The emergency
dispatcher stated on the phone. They deemed the situation to be too dangerous to send an ambulance without police action.
Oakland Athletic League administrator Lamont Robinson Jr. stepped in, announcing that the first official track meet of the season was over and everyone needed to evacuate Castlemont High.
During the practice track meet on April 12, two students ended up in a fistfight. Robinson threatened to cancel the track season if another fight happened.
More information coming soon.
