In Oakland, California there are multiple charter schools closing at the end of the school year. This is hurting over 1500 students including elementary, middle and high schools.
A family whose children go to Aurum Preparatory Academy said: “Some of their parents are looking into schools or looking for schools right now so they get a head start. Most of the parents are having a hard time finding school to put their kids into.”
Aurum only has approximately 112 students and a ratio of 17:1 means there are 17 students and 1 teacher. In public middle schools, they have 659 or more students with a higher teacher-student ratio.
Some charter schools have been criticized for not serving all students with disabilities.
Oakland Unified School District faces ongoing budget challenges, and they may need to close some public schools as well.
This is really sad that this is happening to all the schools that are shutting down. It makes it hard on the parents that have to take time out of their work to look for a good school.
I wish all the people that have to looks for new schools luck and maybe they will look into Montera Middle School and find it that it’s a great school.
