Montera held its fall sports banquet on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024 in the MUR. The sports banquet is a celebration of Montera’s fall sports teams and their accomplishments.
The sports banquet celebrated all the accomplishments of the teams that year. Montera won 6 out of 8 trophies that they could have won. These teams were all called up onto the MUR stage and a coach shared stories of their season and accomplishments. For example, the Junior Varsity volleyball team was supposed to be a practice team which didn’t play in games, but instead, went into games and played real, competitive teams and played exceptionally well against them.
Another winning Montera team brought home the gold in girls flag football. Montera has never had a girls football team, so winning the championship and never having had a team before is truly amazing.
The boys football team also took home the gold for Montera. After a disappointing loss in the championship last year, the Toros pulled through this year.
The girls futsal team also brought home a trophy for the Toros. This is also a new team for Montera.
The girls division in Montera cross country also won the championship with a perfect score of 15. This means that there was a girl in first, earning one point, second, earning two points, third, earning three, and so on, adding up to 15.
While on the topic of cross country, Montera’s Sydney Lee took home first place in the championship, earning herself a gold medal.
Macauley Davis also got first for boys, and first place overall, with the rest of the boys falling just short of Claremont for the team win.
The MUR was full of students, athletes, teachers, and families alike all supporting the Montera community. This event showed the amount of support these teams received throughout the season. Coach Demorath had the privilege of seeing one of the JV volleyball games and describestrhe atmosphere as “electric”. He talked about how the girls were always lifting each other up, cheering for each other, and always supporting one another. This sports banquet was a great demonstration of the community we have here at Montera.
