When the Advanced Art 8th graders first began this project before winter break, some people were excited about the new type of art, while others thought it was a big, nerve wracking project to do in just a month.
This project consists of using scrap cardboard, hot glue, and if you choose, you can use paper mache and paint.
Although many people were struggling with their models, many students that I saw persevered and smashed this assignment with their amazing creativity and devotion to trying new things.
Student Sydney Lee states “ I was pretty tired of painting, so it was a very fun, different thing to do.”
For example, an art student named Emily Harrison has begun working on making a record player out of cardboard with hot glue, while art student Jadyn Hyde-Mcgee took a way bigger and different approach by making a huge cardboard jellyfish with various spray-painted colors.
Art student Olivia Grippo went with a cardboard tv shaped with an outside rim of an apple and a figure of people in the hollow part of the tv dangling from the top. It is one of the most awesome and creative designs I have seen in this class so far.
Student Olivia Grippo states “I started designing my bandsaw box in workshop class and I got my inspiration from my many apple designed clothes which is why I went with an apple shaped tv that was more like a vintage boxy tv.”
Although Art Teacher Mr. Bell pushed the due date back because not very many students finished their project in time, I believe that the students in my class really persevered through this slightly challenging project and many of them have turned out great so far.
